EmpireOne partners with City of Sydney for tech workshops
EmpireOne has always been about making technologies accessible to as many people as possible, in particular those who are least able to engage with technology for social, cultural or economic reasons. This mantra is a core to everything we do.
Our training program, Develop a developa, is a great example. Two to three times a year, we provide a free eight-week training program to bring graduates and underemployed IT staff up to the latest industry standards and work practices. Most have found employment within weeks of doing the training, so we think it’s a very worthwhile community initiative.
When the City of Sydney asked us to start giving seminars on web technologies, we were thrilled to be able to reach more people and share our passion and expertise with them.
What are the seminars about?
We started off with introductory seminars about how small businesses could take advantage of Cloud technologies – what they are and how to get started. These seminars were heavily attended and very successful. Most importantly, many in the audience seemed eager to learn more, so we decided to take these education seminars one step further.
Starting in mid October, we’ll be conducting workshops that are more in-depth, hands on and each time focus on a different topic.
We’ll cover a range of things, from setting up your own website to promoting yourself in the digital world, with everything in between.
Next sessions: dates and topics
The Workshops will be running roughly every three weeks. The first workshop is called “My website and Me” and will take place at the City of Sydney Ultimo library on Friday, 17th October from 1pm to 2.30pm. You can already book your ticket. It’s free, but places are limited, so book it now! You can book tickets on the City of Sydney website.
In this workshop, you’ll learn the basics of creating your own website: what are the prerequisites, and how the pieces of the puzzle fit together.
We’ll also talk you through how to create your website with WordPress, what steps to go take and what to do once it’s been installed.
The workshops have been designed so that you can attend a session without attending the previous one. However, you’ll have a better understanding of how things work if you come to all talks.
You can follow our Facebook page to get updates on future talks and workshops.
